Electric vehicle development facility "The EARTH lab." begins operations - Accelerating efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and develop electric vehicles

In helping realize a carbon-neutral society by 2050, the Isuzu Group is pursuing a "multi-pathway" approach, promoting the decarbonization of commercial vehicles by proposing and providing optimal power sources that deliver high economic value and practical usability for customers. Achieving this goal requires accelerating the development of a wide range of carbon-neutral vehicles, such as battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCVs), as well as strengthening the underlying development infrastructure.

Isuzu announced the establishment of The EARTH lab. in November 2023 as part of its initiative to strengthen its electric vehicle development. The main feature of the facility is its capability to evaluate and verify essential EV systems and technologies from the early stages of development. It includes not only batteries but electric powertrain components such as individual motors and eAxles, as well as energy and thermal management systems. By enabling highly accurate verification of quality and performance from the early stages of development, Isuzu will take the lead in planning, design, evaluation, and decision-making, thereby driving the development of competitive electric vehicles.

It is also notable that the facility has been designed to reduce environmental impacts - with the solar panels installed on its rooftop and side walls, and waste heat recovery systems used for some air conditioning equipment.
